A console, rebuilt as an object
Deep black across the main body, grey accents around the controller ports and edges. The disc-tray cover is custom acrylic with the original PlayStation wordmark laser-engraved — and the face buttons are custom-cut acrylic too, etched to match. RGB lighting underneath, visible through the seams. A 1994 console rebuilt with the precision of a 2026 design object.
The build, step by step
- Full teardown. Every layer separated on an anti-static mat. Three decades of dust removed from places the original assembly line never expected anyone to revisit.
- Motherboard service. Capacitors inspected and recapped where needed. Internal coin-cell battery replaced.
- Optical drive tuning. CD laser pickup cleaned and re-calibrated for reliable disc reads.
- Shell refinish. Original casing wet-sanded between coats, with black laid down across the main body and grey along the accents in multiple passes, sealed under an acrylic clear coat for depth and chip resistance.
- Custom acrylic disc-tray cover. A sheet of premium acrylic cut on a CO2 laser. The PlayStation wordmark is engraved as a precise cutout — not a sticker, not a print.
- Custom acrylic face buttons. Power, reset, and open buttons cut from acrylic and laser-engraved to match the build's finish.
- RGB lighting. Multi-color LED array inside, controlled from a phone app. Pick the color, dial in the brightness, set the speed. Visible through the seams of the disc-tray cover.
- Reassembly under spec. Every screw torqued, every panel aligned with a caliper before it leaves the bench.
