A console, rebuilt as an object

Deep purple paired with cool grey, internals on full display. The case is cut open on top and covered with clear acrylic, revealing the disc drive and motherboard beneath. The purple reads even deeper at night, lit from inside by the RGB array. Late-night CRT aesthetic, fully exposed.

The build, step by step

• Full teardown. Every layer separated on an anti-static mat. Two decades of dust removed from places the original assembly line never expected anyone to revisit.
• Motherboard service. Capacitors inspected and recapped where needed. Clock battery replaced (your saves and system time stay put). Fresh thermal compound on the CPU and GPU.
• Optical drive tuning. Laser pickup re-calibrated for reliable disc reads — including the discs that used to skip.
• Shell refinish. Original casing wet-sanded between coats, with purple and grey laid down in multiple passes and sealed under an acrylic clear coat for depth and chip resistance.
• Custom acrylic top. The original casing is cut open on top and covered with a sheet of premium clear acrylic cut on a CO2 laser — so the disc drive, cooling fins, and RGB array are visible from above. The PlayStation 2 wordmark is engraved into the acrylic as a precise cutout — not a sticker, not a print.
• RGB lighting. A multi-color LED array behind the acrylic, controlled from a phone app. Choose a color, dial in the brightness, set the speed. The wordmark glows through the cutout.
• Reassembly under spec. Every screw torqued, every panel aligned with a caliper before it leaves the bench.

Finish quality

Studio-grade. Wet-sanded between coats, finished with an acrylic clear coat for depth and protection. The acrylic top and engraving are cut on a CO2 laser — geometry impossible to achieve by hand.
